Fireplace Makeover in Brier Creek

The homeowner wanted a more traditional wood fireplace with a mantel and detail carpentry. A new mantel would cost over $400.00 to purchase and install, so she searched a salvage yard in Durham and found a 100 year old piece that needed restoration. These photos were taken before, during and the finished look.
Original look in Brier Creek home.
100 year old salvage yard mantel.
Stripped the paint, mended some chipped boards, patched holes, removed nails and lots for sanding.
The homeowner wanted some flair details, so we added this decorative piece with 3 nails and construction adhesive.
After caulking and speckling, a layer of primer was coated.
After removing crown molding from the original fireplace, I began installing the mantel in the home.
